1. Lockhart - Black's BBQ
Black's BBQ has been owned by the same family since 1932. Visit them at 215 N. Main Street in Lockhart.
Grab a plate, dish up the sides of your choice, and they'll cut your meat up for you right there.
The baby back ribs are sooo meaty.
The brisket and sausage are pretty amazing, too!
2. Luling - Luling City Market
Don't expect to find silverware at this BBQ restaurant, but don't worry - you won't need 'em. 633 E. Davis Street, Luling.
This place is bustling, and very casual. Be prepared to get messy!
The pit is where the magic happens.
3. Bastrop - Southside Market & Barbeque
Southside Market is the oldest BBQ restaurant in the state - established in 1882. You'll find this delicious BBQ joint at 534 Hwy 71 W in Bastrop.
If you're here for lunch, you'll definitely want to try the pulled pork sandwich.
For dinner, something a little more hearty - two meats and two sides. Don't worry; you can't make the wrong choices!
Save room for a slice of pecan pie.
4. Elgin - Meyer's Elgin Smokehouse
These folks have been making sausage for four generations. 188 Hwy. 290 in Elgin.
House-made sauces, homemade sausage from a German ancestor's recipe, and a bunch of delicious smoked meat!
We can't even begin to explain how amazing this smells - you have to experience it for yourself!
The potato salad is the perfect accompaniment.
5. Taylor - Davis Grocery & Bar-B-Q
The last stop on our BBQ Trail, Davis Grocery & Bar-B-Q is a quaint little shop that has a BBQ inside.
This place is a community staple - where you'll find groceries, conversation and tasty BBQ all in one place.
Most days, you'll find the owner, James Davis, Jr., right behind the counter, serving up his delicious food.
The meat is mesquite-smoked and is incredibly tender.
