No One Knows The Last Time This Hidden Door In Rhode Island Was Opened

New England history buffs understand that Rhode Island is a fascinating state filled with an extensive past. Because of its multifaceted history, secrets still remain! Every now and then unbelievable facts, and artifacts are discovered and yet few findings compare to this mysterious vault uncovered at the Rhode Island Statehouse in the capital city of Providence.

The large steel vault was found when a wall was torn down to clear the area for office space. The words “State Returning Board” are the only hint towards its original purpose. With a combination long forgotten and a high cost associated with de-hinging the vault that the state wishes to avoid, no one knows what waits behind the vault. Will we ever discover what treasures, or revealing documents could be stored there?

Check out this covereage by WPRI to see images of the vault and hear more about the story!
