Although some pretty cool people and discoveries have came out of Ohio, the Buckeye State is not without its share of scary and violent citizens throughout its history. The following are who we consider to be the most disturbing individuals who called Ohio their home.
1) The Cleveland Torso Murderer
Also known as the Butcher of Kingsbury Run, this unidentified serial killer murdered and dismembered at least twelve victims from among the homeless in Cleveland (many of whom remain unidentified to this day.) Recent speculation suggests the Butcher may have traveled west and was also the murderer of Elizabeth Short, of the famous "Black Dahlia Murder Case."
2) Edward Edwards (The Zodiac Killer?)
Born in Akron and convicted of murdering five people (one of them being his own foster son,) Edwards was sentenced to life in prison but died only a month into serving his sentence. He was the prime suspect for the Zodiac Killer, responsible for more than three dozen murders in California during the late 60s and early 90s .
3) Charles Manson
Born in Cincinnati, this infamous cult leader manipulated his followers to commit brutal murders in the late 60s on his behalf. He continues to serve his life sentence in California and is known for inspiring the "Helter Skelter" film.
4) Jeffery Dahmer (The Milwaukee Cannibal)
Although he's known for terrorizing Milwaukee, Dahmer was born in Cleveland and killed his first victim in Medina County. He is responsible for killing 17 men and dismembering and eating parts of their corpses. After being sentenced to 15 consecutive life sentences he was murdered in prison.
5) Ariel Castro
Between the years of 2002 and 2004, Castro kidnapped three young girls and held them captive until 2013 when the girls finally escaped. He was sentenced to life in prison plus a thousand years, but died one month into his sentence. The house on Seymour Avenue where the girls were held has since been demolished.
6) Anthony Sowell
In 2009, Sowell's Cleveland home was searched with an arrest warrant for attempted rape, and police found multiple female bodies (and parts of female bodies) scattered throughout his house.
Thankfully, we don’t all turn out this way. Who else is or was from Ohio that you think could be in this article? Tell us in the comments below!
