It’s not every day that you feel the desire to visit a gas station, but in Cloquet there’s a unique piece of history that’s hiding in plain sight that you’ll want to see. With the hopes of one day designing his own city, a small piece of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural master plan came to be with the creation of long-loved roadside attraction. Roughly a half-hour west of Duluth, the city of Cloquet is home to a historic gas station.

More appealing than you might originally assume it to be, the R. W. Lindholm Service Station was built in 1958 and is still open to this very day.

Frank Lloyd Wright originally designed the gas station in 1927. It was intended for Buffalo, New York, but 30 years later, he found the opportunity to bring it to life.
