In Indiana, tornadoes are pretty common. While Hoosiers are used to storms and tornadoes striking, Hoosiers also know tornadoes are nothing to mess with. While many tend to die out and fade into hail or thunderstorms, some tornadoes can turn into violent and deadly storms.
On June 2nd, 1990, a terrifying and deadly storm struck Indiana. In fact, numerous deadly storms struck the Hoosier state in one of the worst storm systems in Indiana history.

Thirty seven tornadoes touched down in Indiana throughout the day, breaking the state’s record for the most twisters to touch down in the Hoosier state, ever. The storms spread across the southern part of the state, causing the most damage in Lawrence County. An F-4 tornado touched down here and demolished a dozen residences, cleared numerous businesses, and even killed one person.

In total, 106 Indiana homes were completely destroyed, which pales in comparison to the 12 Hoosiers who, sadly, lost their lives on this day.
These storms were not limited to Indiana. They ripped through the Midwest, causing the most damage among the Ohio Valley. A total of 65 tornadoes struck the Midwest on this grim day.
