Delaware is full of charming towns, like Lewes, Georgetown, Dover and Bethany Beach. With so many fun towns in the two lower counties, New Castle County gets overlooked quite a bit. One town, located outside of Wilmington, is the type of town that you'll fall in love with as soon as you see it in person.
The beautiful Delaware village of Arden is the quirkiest town in the State.
It was founded as a Georgian utopian community in the early 1900s. It's located just outside of Wilmington in beautiful New Castle County, and surrounded by the similar villages of Ardentown and Ardencroft.
The town's signature trait is the "Gild" community.
Since its founding, Arden has been the home to many Gilds, or clubs, which focus on the many interests of the town's population.
The Concert Gild hosts performances year round in the gorgeous Arden Club.
There's also a Shakespeare Gild that performs at the lovely Stephens Theater, a Dinner Gild that hosts community dining nights, a Folk Gild that puts on entertaining dancing nights, and more. You can find more information about the Gilds and the events that they host on the Arden Club website.
The town is also home to the most unique shop in Delaware - The Oddporium!
This one-of-a-kind oddities store sells unique and creepy goods. You'll find everything from morticians makeup kits to animal skeletons in this neat Arden shop.
Each fall, the town puts itself on display during the Arden Fair.
This year, the fair will be on the first Saturday in September. It's a gathering of the town's many artists, performers, craftsmen and more.
Set aside time this summer to attend an event in Arden, or just visit this town on a day trip.
You'll fall in love with the charm and the sense of peace and community that you encounter in this quaint, charming Delaware village.
