Over the years, a number of famous (and infamous) people have died in the Centennial State. Today, we will be taking a look at a handful of these Colorado deaths and where in the state they occurred.

1.) Hunter S. Thompson (1937-2005)

The infamous journalist and father of gonzo journalism died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Woody Creek home.

2.) Joe Cocker (1944-2014)

Sadly, the famous crooner passed away from lung cancer in Crawford.

3.) Doc Holliday (1851-1887)

Notorious gunslinger Doc Holliday died of tuberculosis at the Hotel Glenwood. (His Glenwood Springs grave is reportedly haunted.)

4.) Linda Lovelace (1949-2002)

The adult-entertainer-turned-activist died in Denver after a car accident.

5.) Buffalo Bill Cody (1846-1917)

American showman William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody lost his battle to kidney failure at his sister's home in Denver.

6.) JonBenét Ramsey (1990-1996)

Considered by many to be one of the most troubling unsolved mysteries in Colorado history, 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in her family's Boulder home on Christmas evening, 1996.

7.) Ruth Etting (1897-1978)

The legendary singer and actress died at a farm just outside of Colorado Springs.
