This Wyoming School Was Just Named The Best In The State
Everyone thinks their alma mater is tops, but students from one Wyoming school can actually say theirs is the best.
When MSN researched the best high schools in the country, Big Horn High School topped the list in the Cowboy State. You won’t find it in one of the “big” cities, but the rural location and small population are part of what gives BHHS its edge.
Big Horn, Wyoming is a picturesque rural area about 15 minutes south of Sheridan.
It's where you'll find Big Horn High School, recently
named the best in all of Wyoming.
Being such a small community, BHHS has an average of about 149 students enrolled each year - and that is all high school students, not just the senior class.
The small number of students at Big Horn High contribute to making it the best in the state. The student to teacher ratio is 11:1, so kids have access to individualized attention when they need it.
Yet, there are more than enough strapping young athletes to put together a winning football team.
In the fall 2017 season, the Big Horn Rams were 10 and 2, scoring over 50 points in one-third of their games.
What's more, BHHS offers a full line-up of boys and girls athletics including track, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, and golf.
The school also has typical electives and extracurricular activities most high schools do...
...but it also has the advantage of being smack in the middle of the Wyoming countryside which makes for some unique field trips.
Back to academics, BHHS students routinely perform in the top 1 percent in the state on the SATs...
...and the graduation rate is high.
88 percent of Big Horn High School students graduate. That's a brag-worthy statistic considering the national average is only 83 percent.
All in all, Big Horn, Wyoming is a terrific place to grow up, and BHHS is great place to get an education.
