The Awe-Inspiring Beauty Of This Wyoming Byway Is Truly Captivating
Few things relieve stress like a nice, relaxing drive along a scenic byway, and Wyoming has quite a few of them to choose from.
One particularly beautiful stretch of road is so picturesque that it regularly draws travelers from around the state and across the nation. The Chief Joseph Scenic Byway isn’t excessively long, but it winds through some of the most enchanting scenery the Cowboy State has to offer. It’s ideal for a leisurely Sunday drive that is tailor-made for stress relief and rejuvenation.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. The byway is said to be the route Chief Joseph and his tribe took in an attempt to evade the cavalry and avoid being forced onto a reservation.

Although snow usually forces the Beartooth Scenic Byway further north to close in the winter, the Chief Joseph Byway typically remains open. During the snowy season, it's common for travelers to spot deer and elk along the way.

Even if you start your journey in Cody, the trip takes less than 90 minutes one way. You can either continue on to tour the Beartooth Scenic Byway (if the roads are clear) or turn around and enjoy more of the Chief Joseph Byway on the return trip.
