Nothing can truly prepare you for the Wyoming wind. Albany County has had the most severe weather alerts of any county in the country over the last ten years, and it's almost all entirely due to the constant wild wind. Just be ready to build up your core strength.
Most people know about our bears and wolves, but you'll rarely spot them. What you may not expect is seeing moose, mule deer, and elk all over the place. These majestic creatures are so fun to watch.
Our remote back roads and highways are rarely crowded. Most traffic jams are caused by weather, or wildlife, and not thousands of commuters trying to make it home during rush hour. It's truly a wonderful thing to get used to.

This is something I can never quite understand. Wyoming is home to two of the most stunning ecosystems in the world, and most Wyomingites completely take them for granted. Yes, Yellowstone crowds are annoying, but if you visit in the offseason, you'll be experiencing another planet.
Despite brushing off the National Parks, we really do appreciate the wilderness. Most of us can get along in the backcountry better than anyone, and our knowledge of lakes, streams, rivers, and mountains is unmatched. It's a strange combination, but it really works out for Wyoming.
Wyoming is about as uniformly right-leaning as a state can be, but that doesn't mean we don't debate politics whenever possible. Just start a discussion about the wolves, or about gun-free zones, and you'll see exactly what I mean. If you don't like energetic debates, don't bring up political topics.
There's nothing quite like dining in a Wyoming steakhouse. The Cowboy State knows hows to grill! From prime rib to ribeye, if you order it out here, you know it'll be good. You'll notice elk and bison on the menu, too, and I can't recommend either one enough. There's a lot to be gained from stepping away from the typical beef when it comes to cooking up dinner.
Wyomingites are independent self-starters who rarely ask for help, so you may expect them to be introverted and keep to themselves. What you'll find is exactly the opposite! Wyoming is full of some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet, and you're sure to love your new neighbors.
