You Haven't Lived Until You've Experienced This One Incredible Canyon In Wyoming
Wyoming’s landscape is made up of breathtaking scenery, in particular, the canyons throughout the state. There’s nothing more majestic than a view of a deep ravine that plunges down between steep cliffs that have been carved by the erosive activity of a river. This one incredible canyon in Wyoming is like no other one in the state.

Bighorn Canyon will leave an everlasting impression on you. The drive along Highway 37 in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area in northern Wyoming sets the tone for this other-wordly canyon area.

The Bighorn Canyon straddles the border along northern Wyoming and southern Montana. The canyon is part of the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area that was established by an act of Congress in 1966.

The area was formed and molded with the construction of the Yellowtail Dam by the Bureau of Reclamation. The dam was named after the famous Crow chairman, Robert Yellowtail. The dam harnessed the water of the Bighorn River turning it into the Bighorn Lake.

Bighorn Lake snakes for 71 miles through Wyoming and Montana. The canyon contains 55 miles of the lake. Pictured is the northern section of the canyon on the Montana end.

The land surrounding the canyon is very diversified with a landscape of forest, mountains, prairie, valley, desert and wetlands.

There are several ways to enjoy the southern end of the Bighorn Canyon near Lovell. You can enjoy the area by boat, floating between walls, cliffs and spires that tower up to 500 feet. You can fish for walleye and sauger in Bighorn Lake which is a popular and lucrative recreational activity in this area. There are also 25- miles of trails in the area and outlooks with stunning views.
