Nature Built A Bridge In This Wyoming Park And It Will Amaze You
Wyoming is filled with natural wonders, and there is a bridge in the eastern part of the state that tops the list.
The Ayres Natural Bridge was handcrafted by Mother Nature herself out of solid stone, though it’s estimated to have taken her millions of years to do it. Even if you don’t happen to be in the area, it’s well worth the detour to Converse County to see this amazing sight.
You'll find the Ayres Natural Bridge a bit off the beaten path.
Though people had reported seeing this incredible natural bridge since the mid 1800s, not many made the trek to experience it for themselves early on.
It's southeast of Casper off U.S. Highway 25. Though it's located southeast of Douglas, you'll travel northwest from there to reach the turnoff.
You can set your GPS for 208 Natural Bridge Road, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 to easily find it.
When a park was created around the attraction in 1910, the bridge started seeing more traffic.
Settlers traveling the Oregon Trail were some of the first to make note of the unusual structure.
The natural bridge is about 2 miles south of the trail, so even pioneers heading west had to go a little out of their way to find it.
Today, the park is much simpler to reach, and the beautiful scenery is a bonus.
What's so striking about the Ayres Natural Bridge is that it seems so obviously and purposely made to be a way to cross the water.
It wasn't built in a day, however, or even a month or year. It took eons for LaPrele Creek to wear away the hill in its path.
The result was a natural bridge, wide and sturdy enough to walk on while the creek continued to flow below.
While some natural attractions have restrictions on how close you can get, you can walk right up to, over, and under the Ayres Natural Bridge.
The view of the creek, the surrounding park grounds, and beyond is breathtaking.
