This Just Might Be The Most Beautiful Hike In All Of Wyoming
Just remember, some things are worth the effort. This hike in Wyoming takes you to a high altitude lake and along the slopes of a beautiful peak in the Tetons. The good news is that it isn’t the hardest hike in the state, but it is absolutely the most beautiful hike in all of Wyoming.
The hike begins at the Paintbrush Canyon Trailhead which is located along String Lake Road. Proceed down a paved path and then take the footbridge on the right which will take you across a creek. Continue on until you reach a split in the trail. Stay right so that you are following along the shore of String Lake.
The next part of the hike continues on through Aspen groves. This section is particularly beautiful in the fall when the leaves are turning. You will eventually gain enough elevation that you will begin to see the valley and lakes below.
Just as you enter into the canyon, you will pass through a long path of Huckleberry bushes. Be sure to watch out for bears, particularly in this area, and have your bear spray handy.
After crossing Paintbrush Canyon Creek, you will step out into the open terrain of the canyon. The canyon is full of colorful wildflowers that line the trail which is how it got its name of 'Paintbrush Canyon'.
Holly Lake lies just below the slopes of Mt. Woodring. Here, the immediate landscape and the panoramic views are breathtaking.
There are two things to keep in mind. The trail will take a minimum of 6-7 hours so be sure to get an early start. Also, there can be areas of packed snow well into July, so go prepared.
