Have A Once In A Lifetime Experience In This Devastatingly Gorgeous Wyoming Canyon

Just when you have Wyoming pegged as all open high plains desert or mountainous Alpine ranges, it surprises you with more devastating beauty. Take Fremont Canyon, for example. Winding its way between where the Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs are now, the North Platte River took eons to chisel away at the sandstone and create this natural wonder. It’s a stunning place that draws visitors year-round to experience the spectacular views, world-class fishing, and much more.

The canyon was named for the U.S. Army General who explored it back in 1842.

John Charles Fremont was actually a lieutenant at the time. He took a shot at traveling down the river by boat, but the ended up losing his watercraft and provisions.
The sheer walls that line the canyon are hundreds of feet high and are dotted with grottoes, caves, and outcroppings of pine trees.

As you might imagine, it's not a place where typical Wyoming wildlife would make a home, but Fremont Canyon is popular with birds, like swallows who build their nests on cliffs...

...and the eagles love the fishing there.

They're not the only ones, though. Even humans know how great the fishing is in Fremont Canyon. It's one of the more popular places in Wyoming with anglers.

It's a great place to catch all species of trout including cutthroat and brown trout, and fishing season lasts all year long in Wyoming.
This stretch of the river is a terrific place for boating, too.
