One Of The Most Unique Towns In America, Cody Is Perfect For A Day Trip In Wyoming
Wyoming’s culture is based around its small towns, and one of our favorites is right in the heart of the state. Cody, Wyoming, was built by Buffalo Bill himself and to this day remains a perfect destination for anyone looking to become familiar with the Cowboy State.
Cody is one of the coolest towns in the country! Come see all that this historic western town has to offer and you'll want to visit again and again.
The town itself was founded as a resort destination by none other than Buffalo Bill Cody himself. Cody wanted his town to be the premier spot for western vacationing, and chose this spot thanks to its moderate high desert climate and proximity to Yellowstone National Park.
There is so much to see when you spend a day in Cody! You can't miss the Old Trail Town museum, where you can take a peek back in time to the early days of frontier life.
The Old Trail Town truly shows you what it was like living out here in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Hard to believe it now!
If you love history, be sure to visit the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. This Smithsonian-affiliated museum complex features five different museums all in one spot.
You'll be able to learn about Buffalo Bill's life and Western show, take a peek back in time at the Draper Natural History Museum, see the Cody Firearms Museum and learn about guns and their development, walk through the Plains Indian Museum to learn about the indigenous populations of Wyoming, and browse western art in the complex's art museum. Your ticket is good for two days of admission, which you honestly may need!
Nature lovers will want to get out to see the Buffalo Bill dam and reservoir. This feat of engineering on the Shoshone River is truly impressive.
If you take the trolley tour of Cody from the center of town, you'll learn all about it.
Be sure to make a reservation to dine at the Irma Hotel. This historic hotel and restaurant was once the most luxurious place to stay in the whole country!
It's hard to talk about Cody without mentioning the Cody Night Rodeo. Before you leave town, be sure to spend some time watching cowboys show off their skills.
