It was from this spot that the first expedition of the Green and Colorado Rivers began. Major John Wesley Powell launched his team here, explored both rivers, and ended up navigating the Grand Canyon for the first time. What he learned on Wyoming's rivers certainly prepared him!
Today, the area around Expedition Island has been turned into a kayak park, so paddlers can test their skills on some whitewater rapids.
