Wyoming's National Forests are a true treasure all year long. In the spring, summer, and fall, they are ideal hiking destinations. In the winter, they become a snowy paradise.
Did you know that you can cut down your own Christmas tree in Wyoming? Taking home a real spruce or pine from the National Forest is so much better than visiting a tree lot or putting up a fake tree.
Picking out the best tree for your home is a family tradition in the Cowboy State. Pick out a tree from an overgrown section of the forest and cut it all the way down to leave just a stump, if you want to help out Mother Nature.
Tree cutting permits will cost you between $5 and $10, depending on the forest you choose. Typically, you can take a tree up to 10 or 20 feet in height, and you would be limited to 5 permits per household.
There's something special about placing presents under a tree that you chose for yourself, out of millions of options, to bring home to your family this holiday season.
