This Little Known Lake In Wyoming Is The Perfect Place To Get Away From It All
Lake Solitude lives up to its name. If you want to get away from it all, then you need to visit this little gem nestled among the Grand Tetons. This isolated and picturesque lake is a perfect retreat from the every day hubbub of life.

Lake Solitude is an alpine lake that is located high in the Grand Teton Mountain Range at the head of the North Fork of Cascade Canyon. Because of its location, it's not as well-known or as accessible as such lakes like Jenny Lake which is much easier to reach. This calm and peaceful lake is a natural lake that is .5 miles in circumference.

The lake provides one of the most picturesque scenes in the state of Wyoming. There is a spectacular view of the Cathedral Group from the shores of Lake Solitude. The Cathedral Group includes the back side of Grand Teton, Mount Owen and Teewinot Mountain. The area yields very few trees due to the elevation but what it lacks in trees, it makes up for in the abundance of wildflowers and wildlife. Some of the wildlife you might encounter include elk, mule deer, martens, snowshoe hares, moose and black bears.

Lake Solitude is only accessible by trail. The trail is a 9-mile hike one way but you can knock a couple miles off if you take the shuttle across Jenny Lake instead of hiking around the lake. Then take Cascade Canyon Trail to Hidden Falls and on to Inspiration Point and finally along the Lake Solitude Trail to the lake. Another route is from String Lake through Paintbrush Canyon to Paintbrush Divide with a descent to Lake Solitude.
