The Stomach-Dropping Suspended Bridge Walk You Can Only Find In Wisconsin
River Falls is a town of about 15,000 folks just 12 miles from the Minnesota border. This beautiful small town is full of great green space and one of their parks has an awesome, if a little disconcerting, suspension bridge.
Nearly 100 years ago, the original bridge in this spot was constructed to go over the South Fork tributary of the Kinnnickinnic River in River Falls over a mill.
The current bridge is a replica of that original structure and it’s an iconic part of life in River Falls.
Glen Park is named for the area the river passes through here and has been a favorite spot of locals since the 1860s. Set aside as municipal land before the turn of the century, this spot has proved a great place to fish, swim and picnic.
The bridge doesn't look too intimidating in these photos of it, but when you get a wide angle look at how it crosses over the river, you start to understand why we call it stomach-dropping.
The bridge is known as the Swinging Bridge because, although it's a solid structure, the construction is such that the walkway is able to move and sway.
Locals are well used to this spot and probably don't think twice about it's height, but your first time looking over the edge of this awesome and unique River Falls feature will definitely have you a little woozy.
