New Richmond Is The Most Scenic Small Town In Wisconsin

Up in the northwest part of the state is the charming town of New Richmond. With just about 8,000 residents, New Richmond is a small town near the Minnesota border that’s packed full of not only natural beauty, but some good food, good folks and good times. It’s also just a few miles away from Willow River State Park. You will fall in love with this scenic small town in Wisconsin.

Willow River State Park was named the best park in Wisconsin January 2017.

Located near the confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers, it's nearly 3,000 acres of gorgeous, natural beauty.

The park is most well-known for Willow Falls, a waterfall that cascades into a 200-foot gorge.

Fossils in the gorge indicate the rock is around 600 million years old.

In addition to the big falls, there's Little Falls Lake, a reservoir created by a dam on the river.

It's a great place to cool off on a warm summer day.

Or to relax in and enjoy the peace and quiet of a secluded outdoor evening.

The park is home to interesting wildlife and provides a great chance to bird watch.

The area is just is beautiful in the winter as it is in the warmer months.

There's something stark but moving about the snowy trails and dormant trees.

And you just might find a friend or two when you're hiking through the trails in the winter.

When you've worked up an appetite, head into New Richmond to the Next Door cafe for homemade sweets, filling food and even live music.

Or refuel at the 45th Parallel. This small, family-owned distillery lets you see how their liquors go from the grain to the glass with tours and tastings.

The New Richmond Heritage Center is home to 11 historic building dating from 1884 through 1930. It's an original working farm and much of that has been preserved. They host an indoor flea market, an old-world Christmas lunch, a farmer's market and live music, among other things and are open year round.

The first weekend in June, New Richmond hosts an art fair and music festival. The Willow River Blue and Brews Festival celebrates Blues and Bluegrass, has no charge and is open-air. It's a gorgeous weekend to sit and take in all New Richmond has to offer.
