There’s a hike in far northern Wisconsin where you can get two awesome experiences for the price of one. The Morgan Falls Trail will take you to a gorgeous waterfall, and you can continue your hike up another trail to a stunning view of Lake Superior. The Morgan Falls and St. Peter's Dome Trail is a scenic hiking route located in Bayfield County, in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Mellen.
The trail begins at a parking area near the end of Morgan Falls Road. From there, hikers will follow a well-marked trail that leads through the forest and along the Tyler Forks River.
The first stretch of trail to Morgan Falls is accessible, with a boardwalk and bridge. You’ll encounter the falls in less than a mile. The falls is breathtaking, cascading 75 feet.
If you’re up for more adventure, leave the falls and continue hiking up the trail, onto the St. Peter’s Dome Trail. It’s a rugged hike over rocky terrain.
St. Peter's Dome is a large rock outcropping that offers stunning views of the surrounding forest and countryside. Hikers can climb to the top of the dome for even more spectacular views.
On clear days you can take in a breathtaking view of the Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands – the lakeshore is over 15 miles away but this challenging hike brings it all into view.
