The property has a long history as an escape. In early 1900s, the property was purchased by Arthur Andrews, a grain merchant from Minneapolis – he used it as a family retreat. The property was named “Hunt Hill” after his wife’s family.

In 1954, the lone surviving heir to the property donated the land to the National Audubon Society so it could become a nature education center. Today it offers educational programming and events.
