The Scenic Rail Trail In Milwaukee That’s Downright Picture Perfect
If you’ve been itching to leave the noisy city streets behind and plunge into the natural world, this beautiful rail trail right in Milwaukee is the perfect remedy. The Oak Leaf Trail follows a former train route and has now been turned into one of the loveliest cycling and walking paths in the state.
The Oak Leaf Trail is a gorgeous scenic rail trail with access points right in the Milwaukee metro area.
It extends for more than 120 miles in and around the city, treating cyclists and walkers to beautiful views of rural plains, forests, and the gorgeous shores of Lake Michigan.
Three miles of the trail follow the path of an old Chicago and North Western railroad line that once serviced Colorado and California.
Another three miles follow the route of a former Union Pacific railroad corridor.
Some of the more remote sections of the trail may let you spot a coyote or two. They’re easily frightened away by a shout, but do your best to avoid any close contact.
The trail is also popular for its birdwatching. Many beautiful species of feathered creatures make their homes along the path.
If you’re in the city, the best place to hop on is near the Milwaukee Art Museum. The trailhead is right off the parking lot.
Other trailheads can be found at Dretzka Park Golf Course and the Milwaukee County Sports Complex Field House.
This rail trail is free to access and an amazing way to get out of the city and into some of the best natural scenery around.
