10 Things People Miss The Most About Milwaukee When They Leave
Milwaukee is arguably the
most underrated city, and for good reason! There’s so much going on in The Good Land that it’s easy to take all of our perks for granted. Whether it be coastal living, comfort food, or a friendly face, these are just ten of the thing people miss the most when they must leave Milwaukee.
1. Lake life.
Living by a lake, especially a
great one, is easy to take for granted. Lake Michigan is a beauty to behold, and living on its coast is second-to-none.
2. Experiencing all four seasons.
Even if winter is rough at times, the ability to experience four prominent seasons is a perk of Milwaukee life we often forget. Though the other three seasons besides winter are short, we embrace them fully.
3. A burger and frozen custard from Kopp's.
There's nothing like old fashioned frozen custard, a jumbo burger, and fries. This combo is a Milwaukee staple, and Kopp's does it best.
4. Cheese. Curds. Everywhere.
Outside of the Midwest, good cheese is hard to come by. Here in Milwaukee, you can get cheese curds nearly everywhere you go, and they're wicked delicious.
5. Friday fish fry.
It's not just the food, (though we do it right), it's a Friday night ritual. Getting together, eating a Midwestern meal, and possibly hearing some polka music is something that only happens in Milwaukee.
6. Closing Wolski's.
This east side tavern is notorious for these bumper stickers that have spread all over the country. If you make it till 2 a.m. (which isn't terribly tough for a true Milwaukeean), you'll receive a prize in the form of the famous "I Closed Wolski's" sticker.
7. The convenience of having a bar on every corner.
Not only is there a bar on every corner, everyone knows your name. Milwaukee neighborhood corner bars are a culture in itself. On any given Sunday, you can head into your local bar to watch football and it doesn't take long for everyone to become family.
8. A summer of festitvals.
Milwaukee is the "City of Festivals," and it's easy to forget that summer just isn't the same without a celebration every weekend. Home to Summerfest—the world's largest music festival—we simply don't stop festivities.
9. Countless amazing parks.
Milwaukee has over 150 parks, and they're all unique and filled with beauty. Living in some cities can make it difficult to find your nature fix, but not in Milwaukee—we have natural treasures everywhere.
10. The people.
Brew City is a place where everyone says "hello." It's not hard to find a helping hand, and Milwaukeeans are always giving back and trying to build this city into something even better. You'll never find a more community-minded city than Milwaukee, and every Milwaukeean misses these friendly faces when they leave.
