Lake Redstone was a developer’s dream in the 1960s, and decades later, it is still a destination for rest and relaxation. You’ll find Lake Redstone in northwestern Sauk County. It’s located about seven miles from Reedsburg and three miles from La Valle. It’s located in the state’s iconic Driftless Area, a rugged landscape missed by glaciers.
The lake did not always exist. It was a once a marshy valley that was difficult to farm. A developer named Ike Isaacson proposed turning the area into a lake.
It was a big project that involved removing 10,000 trees and damming Big Creek with a large dam. Work on the lake began in 1964, and it was officially completed two years later, in 1966.
The dam is located at the south end of the lake, and its spillway creates a beautiful waterfall that eventually flows into the Baraboo River. It’s a refreshing spot on a warm day!
The lake has been a relaxing spot for more than six decades, drawing vacationers to a spot that was once farmland. There are three boat landings that can get you on the water, as well as a pleasant park on the lake’s south side.
