Candy stores, mom-and-pop shops, and decades-old businesses are all pretty rare finds. Discovering a place that’s all three is even rarer. However, such places do exist and Beerntsen’s Confectionary is one of them. Brimming with tasty treats and historic charm, a visit to the iconic shop is like taking a sweet step back in time! Opened in Manitowoc back in 1932, Beerntsen’s Confectionary is like a treat-filled time capsule.
Since opening, it’s been run by two families — first the Beerntsens and then the Schadries. Both families have remained committed to retaining the sweet shop’s old-fashioned feel.
But the atmosphere isn’t the only old-fashioned thing about Beerntsen’s. There’s also the collection of retro and classic candies that fill the shelves.
The old-timey culinary adventure doesn’t end with the chocolates and candies, though. Head to the eatery at the back of the shop, and you can fill up on sundaes, banana splits, and other classics.
