This is a state park that’s has one foot in America’s Dairyland, and the other in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. It’s called Interstate State Park, and it’s also one of the prettiest parks in Wisconsin. You’ll find Interstate State Park in far western Wisconsin, straddling the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota, located along the St. Croix River.
There are actually two separate state parks, one in each state, that share a common boundary and a unique geologic feature: the Dalles of the St. Croix.
This feature consists of a deep gorge with dramatic rock formations that were created by the swirling waters of the St. Croix River over thousands of years.
The Wisconsin side of Interstate Park covers 1,330 acres and includes hiking trails, scenic overlooks, picnic areas, and a campground. The park also has a visitor center that features exhibits on the geology, history, and natural features of the area.
The park is popular with hikers. One of the most popular trails in the park is the Pothole Trail, which is the western terminus of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail – it’s a foot path that winds its way across the state to Sturgeon Bay.
