The Astronomy Trail can be found in the Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. The Pike Lake Unit is a 678-acre property that’s part of the Wisconsin State Park System.
You’ll find this beautiful parkland just east of Hartford, along the shore of 446-acre Pike Lake. The property is part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, a wild and rugged landscape that was sculpted by glaciers thousands of years ago.
It’s also a great place for a hike. There are trails with boardwalks along the lake and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail passes right through the park.
The trails in the park are color coded and for an unforgettable hike, choose the blue trail. It will lead you on a pleasant loop through the park that covers nearly four miles. It has a section with an unusual surprise.
The Astronomy Segment is a half-mile stretch with signs with details on the heavens above. Take a little time to enjoy the signs, especially if you have some little stargazers along!
