It's been a tough year for blueberry farmers. In addition to COVID related concerns, the weather has not been conducive to a booming blueberry crop. But at the largest blueberry farm in West Virginia, there are still enough blueberries to go around!
Floral Acres boasts approximately 3500 blueberry bushes, and they expect to have berries available through mid-August. All of Floral Acres' berries are organic and sell for $2.50 per pint.
Another option is White Oak Farm. You can find this U-pick berry patch at the end of a meandering dirt lane in the small town of Renick, north of Lewisburg. They are offering pick-your-own blueberries for $2.20 per pound this year.
And it's definitely not too early to begin thinking about Christmas gifts...and some of their homemade blueberry jam is a great option for ANYONE on your list.
Don't wait long to plan your trip to either of these two delicious destinations. Check hours and berry availability by visiting each farm's Facebook page.
Just a few other notes relevant to blueberries in West Virginia, since it is such an unusual year: Blueberry Hill in Flat Top and Blueberry Ridge Farm in Fairmont are both already closed for the 2020 season, but they both expect to reopen to the public for U-pick next summer, so keep them on your list for the future! Also, if you’d like to try planting your own backyard blueberries, you can purchase a variety of blueberry bushes from Shady Oaks Blueberry Farm in Poca. Blueberries also grow wild in the woods of West Virginia, so watch for them as you hike.
