A lunch, bakery, and catering business, this neighborhood spot does a little bit of everything. And, as you might have guessed by the name, donuts are the specialty here. And yet, the incredible food offerings are just part of what makes Totally Glazed such a staple in the community, despite having just opened relatively recently. Welcome to Totally Glazed! Tucked away in southern West Virginia, this business is immediately recognizable by its bright blue awning and groovy decor.
The moment you step inside the shop, you'll feel welcomed as though you were a local. According to the owners, Bob and Willi Jones, "we strive to provide our customers with an inviting atmosphere, great customer service, and outstanding food."
Totally Glazed opened just a few months before the COVID-19 lockdown and faced difficulties keeping business afloat during that time of uncertainty. However, it wasn't long before news of their must-try donuts spread through town and supply often sold out within the hour!
If it's your first time visiting Totally Glazed, you'll be tempted to make a beeline for the donut case. Made-from-scratch yeast donuts with homemade glaze create the most decadent treat.
On any given week, you'll find more than 10 varieties of delicious donuts from which to choose. They're made in small batches to ensure quality and taste. And if you look closely, you'll notice something unusual: there are no holes! That's right, you get even more delicious donut bang for your buck.
Flavors range from traditional to totally creative, and the best part of visiting is that you never know what delightful varieties await!
Some of the most popular sandwiches include cubans, clubs, pepperoni rolls, pimento cheese, and chicken salad. Throughout the year, you'll also notice a variety of seasonal salads and soups offered as well.
When asked about one of their favorite menu items, the owners described their famous Cuban sandwich: "You’d be hard-pressed to find a better Cuban sandwich anywhere outside of Florida. Our marinated, slow-roasted pork along with Black Forest Ham, pickles, Swiss cheese, mayo/mustard spread, and 'MOJO Sauce' on pressed bread will keep you coming back; and our club sandwich, piled high with toppings is sure to satisfy your appetite," says the owners.
Feeling adventurous? Why not order the works: a made-to-order cheeseburger complete with two donuts as the bread!
Birthday parties, corporate events, reunions, weddings... you name it! Nothing adds a little festivity like a batch of homemade donuts.
Perhaps most impressive of all is the fact that Totally Glaze serves the community in a very tangible way. Many of the employees are hired right out of recovery and are given a chance to re-enter the workforce in a meaningful and positive environment.
One employee began as a dishwasher and has worked her way to becoming a main cook and a vital part of the business. "We hope we can be a stepping stone to better employment opportunities," Jones shares, "or retain them and allow them to be a positive example to the next hire that is brought in."
Additionally, Willi, who is a registered nurse, spends time traveling to communities and providing overdose-prevention training while also helping to arrange food distribution.
