Spooky locations are always a popular haunt, though many of us aren’t interested in anything past reading about the history of these places. Haunted houses and cemeteries are a dime a dozen, but how often do you see a haunted park in West Virginia like this one? If anywhere is going to have ghosts, it’s this spot right here. Welcome to West Virginia's most haunted park, Lake Shawnee Amusement Park. Many tales and stories have come out about this area, but would you be brave enough to visit in the night?
At night, the rusty chains and overgrown structures really stand out eerily. Abandoned structures stand rotting, and overgrowth covers everything it can reach.
There is a creepy vibe permeating the entire area, but for good reason. While the park was in operation, at least two children lost their lives here, with a rumor of four more before the park closed forever.
During one instance, a girl was swinging when a truck backed into the area, directly into her path. Another child, a little boy, drowned in the swimming pond.
Visitors have mentioned seeing spirits of all kinds, including apparitions of the deceased children, to the Native Americans who were buried in the ground before the park even opened.
It is sadly all too common for things to be built on top of Native American burial grounds, and in the 1920s when this amusement park was built, it was no different. After it was bought and unsuccessfully revived in the 1980s, the burial grounds were discovered and the land was thankfully left alone, allowing it to look as haunted as its past.
The park does, however, host occasional haunted tours and events, where people tell firsthand accounts of paranormal activities here, along with a tour of the grounds in the night. Are you brave enough?
