2. Enjoy Nature's Beauty At Tomlinson Run State Park
This lesser-known state park has some beautiful hiking trails that will get you out in nature and away from the crowds. Stay overnight in a cabin or yurt! You'll find this little gem 19 miles north of Weirton on WV Rt. 2.

3. The Little Town Of Glenville
This town is so tiny that it just has one stop light, but it also boasts several really cool, historic buildings. Check out the John E. Arbuckle House, Gilmer County courthouse and Job's Temple, a tiny Methodist church built in the mid-1800s.

4. Get Away To A Cozy Cabin

5. Walk Amongst The Trees In Cathedral State Park
Meander along one of the many hiking trails in this gorgeous park - you'll find six miles of trails to explore here. The giant hemlock trees here are as tall as 90 feet with a circumference up to 16 feet around.

The overlook here is very popular, with plenty of visitors. But if you take a hike, you'll find more solitude and peace, especially during the off season.

If you really want to be isolated from people, spend a night or two at the Thorny Mountain Fire Tower. You'll be surrounded by wilderness, perched high above the trees.

8. Visit The Ghost Town Of Kaymoor
The tiny coal mining town of Kaymoor is abandoned now, but you can visit the ruins of the mining operations. Some of the building have been torn down for safety reasons (including the one in this photo), but you'll find other remnants of the town. It's a great place to explore - just be careful.

The WVC Core Arboretum is a quiet, little oasis right on the West Virginia University campus. Wander along the three-mile trail, and watch for wildlife and some beautiful plants and flowers.
