Holly River State Park is one of West Virginia's best kept secrets, located smack dab in the middle of the state. This place looks like something straight out of a fairytale. Located in lush, dense forest, the park's beauty is simply otherworldly.
Holly River is West Virginia's second largest state park at a whopping 8,100 acres of pure natural beauty. The dense forest landscape makes you feel a million miles away from it all. And since the park is perfectly nestled in a valley surrounded by looming mountain peaks (some of which reach 2,800 feet), you'll definitely feel as if you've been transported to another universe.
You'll find nothing short of sweet, peaceful solitude here. Of course, the park is full of recreational opportunities such as hiking, camping, and even swimming. Oh, and you're sure to come across all sorts of wildlife here!
By far some of the most magical features of the park are the many breathtaking waterfalls.
You'll feel totally at peace with only the sounds of the cascading waters and the rustling of nearby wildlife. If this isn't the closest place to Narnia, then what is?
Charming wooded pathways lead you through the fantastical park. The park is also well known for being home to a wide variety of flora, including gorgeous wildflowers.
This area was originally settled in 1870 and went through decades of deforestation. It wasn't until 1937 that the Department of Agriculture purchased the land and began the process of restoring the area. It's places like this that remind us how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful state.
Holly River contains over 42 miles of hiking and biking trails, perfect for getting lost in. Wander for as long as your heart desires.
This place is simply breathtaking no matter what time of year it is and the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. There is something incredibly magical about surrounding yourself in one of West Virginia's most beautiful landscapes.
