The Longest, Fastest Sled Run On The East Coast Is Right Here In West Virginia
It’s appropriate that West Virginia can lay claim to the longest, fastest sled run on the East Coast. After all, we do have the longest, deepest river gorge in Eastern America (the New River Gorge, of course!) cutting through our backyard, as well as two of the highest bridges in the world (the New River Gorge Bridge and the Glade Creek Bridge) spanning it. So of course, it’s fitting that Blackwater Falls Sled Run is among the longest, fastest sled runs in the nation!

One of West Virginia's favorite state parks is just as stunning in the winter as it is in spring, summer, and even fall: Blackwater Falls State Park.
But in addition to the scenery, there's another aspect of Blackwater Falls State Park that you just have to experience for yourself this winter: the sled run.
It's the longest sled run you can find anywhere in the Eastern United States, making it the perfect wintertime splurge for an adventure the whole family will love.
It opens Thursdays to Sundays in mid-to-late December each year, depending on weather, and typically stays open through the month of February and into early March.
You don't even have to climb back up the hill when you're done...you can get pulled up a narrow lift on your sled while you relax and gear up for another exciting run!
