This One West Virginia Town Has More Outdoor Attractions Than Any Other Place In The State

There are definitely a lot of things to do outdoors in Huntington, West Virginia, from the state parks to various outdoor attractions. It is easy to spend a day outside and not run out of things to keep you occupied.

Rotary Park is located on the outskirts of Huntington. While there, you can enjoy several outlooks that provide generous views of Huntington, climb the Outlook Tower, hike many different trails and play Frisbee golf.

Opened in 1903, Camden Park is a local favorite. Enjoy a number of different rides including a roller coaster and Ferris wheel. Like most carnivals, you can play games to win prizes and enjoy food, refreshments and, of course, funnel cake.

It's not the museum itself that is an outdoor attraction - although the conservatory does feature plants from all over the world - but the 1.3 mile network of trails that lie on the grounds behind it. Admission to the museum is free on Tuesdays, otherwise it is $5 per person.

The park sits along the state border on the Ohio River. There is a boat ramp, an area which is generally home to hundreds of ducks, birds and geese. There is also a playground, a skate park sponsored by the Tony Hawk Foundation, and amphitheater style seating for live musical performances on a barge brought in for several yearly events, such as the annual Huntington Classic Regatta, Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration and many concerts.

This outdoor museum features several classic trains once used for the C & O Railroad. The museum is open every Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Heritage Farm is a recreated Appalachian Village of the 19th century. It has over 30 structures, including several museums, a petting zoo, lodges for rent and a replica of a general store from the time period. Throughout the year, they host events called Way Back Weekends that each highlight a different aspects of Appalachian life in the 1800's.

Technically part of the greater Huntington Area, the popular Beech Fork offers a lake for canoeing or kayaking (rentals available), a beach and swimming area, many hiking trails and camp grounds.

Huntington is located 53 miles west of Charleston along I-64.
