What are some of the best waterfall trails in West Virginia?

While West Virginia might not be the first place that comes to mind when conjuring up images of picture-perfect waterfalls, the Mountain State is actually home to quite a few falls! There are about 275 waterfalls in West Virginia, each offering a unique and wholly wonderful experience. And the best part … many of these falls are easily within reach!

One of the tallest waterfalls that you can hike to in West Virginia, Cathedral Falls cascades down more than 60 feet. While the idea of making your way to one of our state’s largest waterfalls might make you think that you have a large hike ahead of you, Cathedral Falls is here to prove you wrong … in the most splendid and sublime way.

Another waterfall trail in West Virginia we simply adore is, of course, Blackwater Falls. Tucked away within the Allegheny Mountains, venture on out to Blackwater Falls State Park and you can find a short-but-sweet hike that will lead you to a stunning waterfall. A great way to break in a new pair of hiking shoes, the Blackwater Falls Boardwalk Trail will have you traversing down 200 steps through the state park. Giving you a pristine view of the 62-foot Blackwater Falls, it’s time to check out this waterfall hike if you haven’t yet already
