Tucked away deep in the forest in the heart of West Virginia’s coal country is a quiet cove. It’s a beautiful, calm oasis in McDowell County, made even more picturesque by a quaint, arched footbridge that crosses the lake from shore to shore. The name of this charming spot? Berwind Lake.

Because of its small size, hunting is limited on the wildlife preserve, although raccoon, deer, and turkey can be harvested.
