15 Breathtaking Waterfalls Hiding In West Virginia
To us, nothing is more serene that the sound of a flowing waterfall. It is estimated that West Virginia has over 250 waterfalls, both named and unnamed. For your hiking pleasure, we have compiled a list of just fifteen of the most magnificent waterfalls that this wonderfully mountainous state has to offer. Lace up your hiking boots and pack some trail mix, because these West Virginia waterfalls beckon.

1. Blackwater Falls, located in Davis, WV.
Tucked away amidst the stunning Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County, this 57-foot tall cascade stuns all that visit.
2. Cathedral Falls, located at Gauley Bridge, WV.
Cascading over 100 feet to the ground below, Cathedral Falls produces a roar that's downright heavenly.
3. The widest waterfall in West Virginia at 1500 feet wide, Sandstone Falls, located in Hinton, WV.
This impressively wide waterfall can be found on the New River, and it is best viewed from the Sandstone Visitor Center.
4. High Falls, located in Glady, WV.
You can reach this pretty point by taking High Falls Trail in the Monongahela National Forest.
5. Elakala Falls, located in Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, WV.
You don't have to hike far to reach Elakala Falls! With a cascade of over 100 feet, this pretty water feature is best admired following rainfall.
6. Valley Falls, located in Fairmont, WV.
You'll find this pretty series of waterfalls in the aptly named Valley Falls State Park. With 1,145 acres of landscape, this park won't disappoint.
7. Babcock Mill Creek Falls, located in Clifftop, WV.
Though it looks to be as old as time, Glade Creek Grist Mill in the background of this image is a modern addition to Babcock State Park.
8. Pipestem Falls, located in Pipestem, WV.
Pipestem Falls Park hosts a pretty waterfall, though a modest one compared to many on this list. It is so named for the pipestem, an evergreen shrub.
9. Whitaker Falls, located in Webster County, WV.
You can spot this pretty waterfall from Bergoo Road in Webster County. The Elk River may be a mere tributary, but it is stunning.
10. Wonder Falls, located in Bruceton Mills, WV.
Big Sandy Creek has 31 miles of powerful currents, but none are as striking as Wonder Falls.
11. The beautiful Falls of Fox Branch, located in Ansted, WV.
You can access this pretty waterfall off of Hawks Nest Rail Trail in Hawks Nest State Park.
12. Peach Tree Falls, located near Naoma, WV.
Located on Peach Tree Creek right before it flows into the Coal River, this pretty waterfall is a slice of paradise.
13. Brush Creek Falls, located in Athens, WV.
This lovely landmark in Mercer County may be a mere 25 feet in height, but it is stunning all year round. Even in the winter!
14. Albert Falls, located in Thomas, WV.
This Tucker County natural landmark is absolutely stunning. The Blackwater River can be accessed via footpath from Rail Falls Road.
15. Mash Fork Falls, located in Camp Creek, WV.
Located in Camp Creek State Park and Forest, this waterfall bears the name of one of the area's most iconic creeks.
