But Mead is home to one of the most unique parks in our state: Cat Tales, a zoological park that’s full of beautiful wild cats.
Cat Tales was founded in 1991 by Mike and Debbie Wyche. They started with four cats, giving people small tours around their house. As word of their facility got around, they started to rescue more and more cats, and the operation grew.
These days you’ll probably find around 36 big cats including lions, leopards, pumas and tigers. They even have some non-feline creatures like black bears.
Cat Tales is also the home of the Zoological Training Center, the only school of its kind in the USA. Students from all over the world come here to learn about zookeeping.
The goal of the Cat Tales park is to promote the survival and the health of all living species through dedication, conservation and education. They hope to make a difference by encouraging people of all ages to prevent the continued destruction of wildlife.
