If you grew up in Washington, you’ve probably driven Snoqualmie Pass and our other more well-known routes a time or two. However, our beautiful state also has plenty of hidden gem highways and byways that are worth exploring. In the case of these 4 scenic drives, the journey is the destination.

1. Horseshoe Highway, Orcas Island

The next time you get a chance to explore the San Juan Islands, drive Mount Constitution Road and Orcas to Olga Road. This drive will take you past some of the islands's most breathtaking spots, especially the Mount Constitution lookout.
2. The Yakima River Canyon

The route follows the Yakima River through a deep canyon surrounded by hills. It's only 26 miles in length, but it's an incredibly scenic detour from I-82.
3. Spirit Lake Memorial Highway

This gorgeous drive begins in Castle Rock and follows WA-504 east, mostly following the North Fork Toutle River to the Johnston Ridge Observatory. You'll eventually pass the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, which is incredible.
4. Spokane River Loop

This 72-mile loop starts in the city, taking you alongside the Spokane River and Long Lake through some of the Inland Empire's best scenery.
