Amazon’s Revolutionary Grocery Store in Washington Changes Everything

Forget everything you thought you knew about grocery shopping. And Amazon, for that matter.

In just a few short months, the online super-company will be opening a physical store in Seattle that promises to eliminate the need for checking out altogether. Can you imagine leaving the store without stopping to physically pay for the items? This traditional concept may be a thing of the past, thanks to the development of Amazon Go. Here’s more on this futuristic shopping experience:

Using what it calls “just walk out technology,” Amazon is developing a grocery store that will allow its customers to simply pick up what they want and walk out.

This radical idea is not unlike the notion of self-driving cars, and the process actually uses some of the same sensor fusion technology.

So how exactly does that work? First of all, shoppers will need the Amazon Go app. This will scan to a sensor as soon as you walk in.

After that, you can put your phone away and continue shopping as normal.

Any item you pick up will be added to a “virtual cart.” You can still carry around a shopping bag, but your phone will be keeping track of each food item. This includes the ones that you decide to put back, too.

It goes against every instinct of a traditional shopping experience, but you’re free and clear to walk out of the store whenever you’re done. Just like that.

Your Amazon account will be charged the exact amount that you spent, and your receipt will be emailed to you.

No check out, no lines, no cashiers on site…it sounds like something from a futuristic world, but Amazon Go will be here in Seattle in just a few short months.
