The Tiny Town In Washington That’s The Next Ice Cream Capital Of The World
If you’re like most Washingtonians, you probably head straight for
Sluys Bakery when you’re visiting Poulsbo and you need a sweet treat. But if you’re planning to head to Washington’s Little Norway this summer, you may want to keep something else in mind: ice cream. For such a tiny town, they’ve got a lot of delicious options.
First, there are plenty of scrumptious flavors at Mora Ice Creamery on the waterfront.
The company has developed almost 100 unique flavors, about 48 of which you'll find at their shop at any given time. They originated on Bainbridge Island, and we love that they have locations in Poulsbo and Kingston now. They don't take short cuts or powdered mixes when making their ice cream, which is apparent at first lick.
The irresistible ice cream at Mora has earned such a great reputation that it's become almost as popular as the bakery Poulsbo is so well known for. If you visit this summer, you'll notice locals and tourists alike walking around with cones.
Viking Feast Ice Cream’s Scandinavian roots make it a perfect fit for Poulsbo. It was created by Thormod Skald and his wife, Asta Gunnlaugsdottir, who immigrated to America from Iceland in 2008.
Thormod and Asta had intended to settle in Port Townsend, but as soon as they visited Poulsbo, they knew it was home. Thormod’s family had a long tradition of making ice cream, and the couple decided that's how they'd make their living in the U.S. They use local berries and the best quality flavors they can find.
This hardworking duo still makes the ice cream themselves, and you'll find it at their shop as well as plenty of local markets in the area. Check out the video below to learn more about this delicious ice cream:
One fantastic place to find Viking Feast ice cream is the adorable ChocMo at 19880 7th Ave NE.
ChocMo is a cafe known for their outstanding breakfasts, and this is the best place to be if you want your ice cream turned into something creative and delicious.
If you're looking for something a little lighter, head to Yo! G's Frozen Yogurt at 21505 Market Pl. NW.
This is one of those magical places where you choose your flavor and toppings to create your own masterpiece.
The possibilities are practically endless (and always irresistible).
Poulsbo also has plenty of classic ice cream spots, like Dairy Queen and Sonic. So no matter what you're craving, you'll find it here.
Of course, whether or not you have a sweet tooth, Poulsbo is a wonderful place to visit (or live).
