Fort Vancouver is a national historic site that makes a great day trip destination in any season. Located on the north bank of the Columbia River, this old trading post and military site is known for the tasty Eatery at the Grant House and informative Visitor Center. And if you happen to go during the winter, you can see the site in a whole new light — by candlelight, that is. The annual Lantern Tour Series starts soon, and you’ll love it.
This old 19th-century fur trading post was a major center of the regional fur trading, and since 1948, it has been a U.S. National Monument.
Obviously, there was no electricity when the fort was first built, so seeing it this way feels more authentic.
