Fort Nisqually was the first European settlement on the Puget Sound.

It was established in 1833 by The Hudson's Bay Company, a fur trading company.
The original fort was located in what is now DuPont, on the beach and plains above the Nisqually River.

Today, Fort Nisqually is located inside Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. You'll find several of the original buildings here, plus plenty of artifacts.

Metro Parks Tacoma also hosts events here on occasion, such as candlelight tours.
You can visit the fort daily in the summer, but from October - April, it's open Wednesday through Sunday from 11-4.

Admission is $8 for adults, with discounts for seniors, military, and family. Children 3 and under are free.
