You’ll Want To Visit These 5 Beaches For The Most Beautiful Washington Sea Glass
You won’t find white sand, palm trees or warm water at our beaches here in Washington, but what they lack in tropical flair is more than made up for by their beauty. And in some cases, you’ll see shimmering sea glass along the shoreline.
While sea glass has less than perfect beginnings — it’s created from the discarded glass bottles that get tossed around the ocean water and shatter — what it turns into is beautiful. These are some of the best spots to see it.
The beaches of Port Townsend are so well-known for sea glass that North Beach Park has been unofficially named Glass Beach. When you hit North Beach, walk west for about an hour if you want to find the best glassy areas.
Alki Point used to be a site for dumping garbage many years ago, and that means it's a great spot to look for sea glass these days. Go early in the morning or during low tide and you're sure to see some.
Rosario Beach is located on the south side of Fidalgo Island, and it's a great place to spot sea glass. The waves are very small during low tide, and unless it's a warm summer day, the beach probably won't be very crowded.
Ediz Hook is a 1.5 mile split where you'll often find shimmering pieces of sea glass. If you don't mind the cold weather, winter is the best time to look here.
While Rosario Beach is a great place for finding sea glass, there's plenty to find in the rest of Deception Pass State Park as well. The park runs between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands, and there are plenty of hidden gems full of beach glass on the shoreline. On Whidbey Island, focus on the west-facing beach side of the park where currents often deposit the glass.
