For over a century, Lynden Dutch Bakery has been whipping up delicious desserts in the tiny town of Lynden, Washington. The charming little brick bakery is a local favorite, and in 2018 was voted the “best of Lynden” in the category of baked goods in the Lynden Tribune. It was also recognized in USA Today for its oliebollen, and has been named as one of the top 10 bakeries in the entire state.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted with a cozy atmosphere, with display cases full of desserts and a whole wall dedicated to the long history of Lynden Dutch Bakery.
The bakery’s caramel apple pie, packed with local Washington apples and layered with thick, rich caramel made in-house, is a favorite on the menu. Complement it with a cup of coffee or tea or a well-crafted espresso drink.
Lynden Dutch Bakery also serves savory breakfast and lunch items, like breakfast sandwiches made with flaky buttermilk biscuits, or a soup and sandwich combo made with freshly-baked bread.
But the real focus is on the sweets. Fresh, local produce combined with handcrafted crust and fresh cream make for a decadent dessert. And pie isn’t the only thing on the menu. Lynden Dutch Bakery also has doughnuts, Speculaas cookies, cinnamon rolls, tarts, coffee cake, and more.
The pie offerings rotate daily and vary seasonally, but some of the top selling flavors include the caramel apple pie, strawberry-rhubarb pie, tripleberry, cherry, traditional apple, and Dutch apple.
The bakery is also known for its traditional Dutch desserts, such as poffertjes, Dutch mini pancakes that are popular as a street food in the Netherlands especially during holidays and festivals. On Saturdays and every day in December, you’ll also find oliebollen, a kind of fried Dutch pastry similar to a doughnut – crisp on the outside and soft inside.
