Enjoy Beer With A Side Of Bocce Ball At Rhein Haus, A German Bar In Washington
It isn’t easy to find an authentic German bier hall in Washington, especially outside of Leavenworth. But if you’ve ever been to Rhein Haus in Seattle, you know it’s the real deal. This all-ages bar and eatery has been a beloved local icon since the day it opened — and if you enjoy beer, bocce ball, and Bavarian food, you’ll be in heaven here.
Rhein Haus first opened in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood in 2013 -- and for a brief moment in time (until the real Von Trapp family got upset), it was known as Von Trapp's.
Owners Deming Maclise and James Weimann took over an old renovated candy factory, turning it into a 10,000 square foot piece of Bavaria.
The interior is laid back but also remarkably upscale, and the space is massive.
While this place stays packed almost every day of the week, it usually isn't too tough to find a table.
Aside from the beer and delicious food, the five indoor bocce ball courts are the largest attraction.
There's also an outdoor bocce ball court along with an outdoor biergarten. The courts are available to rent by the hour.
Speaking of delicious food... when you visit Rhein Haus, make sure to come hungry.
The menu is full of German classics like pretzels, bratwurst, and schnitzel.
In addition to the great dinner menu, you can stop in between 4 and 6 p.m. Monday - Friday and enjoy discounted happy hour food and drink. They even have a kids' menu here.
And if you happen to be around on a Saturday or Sunday, you can come in for a hearty Bavarian inspired brunch.
Whether or not you're typically a beer drinker, you may want to order something from the Bier List here.
Not only does the list include plenty of quality German bier, but you'll be able to try some award-winning brews from right here in the Pacific Northwest.
Ready to come enjoy a meal and some bocce ball? Good news -- you can make a reservation for both.
Rhein Haus is open Monday - Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m., Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. - 2 a.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. - 2 a.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. - 2 a.m. That's a lot of time for bratwurst and bier.
