Everyone From Washington Should Take This Awesome Island Vacation Before They Die

If you live in Washington, you already know you never have to leave the state to have a great vacation. Whether you’re craving a hike in the mountains or the smell of the ocean air, you’ll find it here. The San Juans are spectacular, and Bainbridge is always beautiful… but we think a weekend (or longer) on Whidbey Island should be on every Washingtonian’s bucket list.

Whidbey Island is located north of Seattle between the Olympic Peninsula and the I-5 corridor of Western Washington.

The island forms the northern boundary of Puget Sound.
To reach the island, you'll take a beautiful ferry ride from Mukilteo to Coupeville.

You can also get to Whidbey by driving, but it typically takes longer.
It's no exaggeration to say that this island has something for everyone.

Whether you're with your family, on a romantic getaway, with a group of friends or traveling solo, you'll find plenty to see and do.
Fort Casey State Park is a historic area that's brimming with local history, most notably the Admiralty Head Light.

This deactivated lighthouse dates back to 1903.
Oak Harbor's Deception Pass State Park is another must-see, especially the famous Deception Pass Bridge.

This is Washington's most visited park for a reason. It's incredible.
And don't think the island is dedicated solely to natural wonders. It's home to towns like Langley, which might actually be the cutest place on the planet.

Langley has delicious restaurants, shops, and plenty of wine tasting for the discerning tourist.
Coupeville is home to the Davis Blockhouse, still in its original space.

If you imbibe, a stop at the Whidbey Island Distillery is a must.

Since 2009, they've been crafting quality spirits in Langley.
And if you visit the tiny town of Greenbank, you can stop by Whidbey Pies Cafe between 11 and 4 for the best pie of your life.
