Washingtonians know a thing or two about the art of glass blowing. After all, famous glass sculptor Dale Chihuly was born and raised here (and we’ve got the glass museum to show for it). But did you know there are several places in the Evergreen State where you can learn the art of glass blowing yourself? We’re particularly fond of Art by Fire, where you can start learning skills as young as five. Grown-ups are, of course, welcomed and encouraged to participate as well.

You can take classes in both glass blowing and lampworking, or making glass beads.

You can sign up for private classes or take them with a group. Beginner Glassblowing, which meets weekly for six weeks for four hours at a time, is a popular choice for those who want to learn a lot fairly quickly.
You can also check out the specialty classes, like Sculpted Glass Flowers and Shamrocks ($60) or Sculpted Glass Bunnies and Peeps (also $60).

Art and Sharon have a strong desire to pass this art form on to the next generation, so they even offer classes for children.

Little ones as young as five years old can participate in the Glassblowing Mini classes, a 15-30 minute course that meets one-on-one with an instructor.
