Few People Realize There Are Five Active Volcanoes Right Here In Washington
When you grow up in Washington, you learn all about the day Mount St. Helens erupted in school (unless you’re old enough to have experienced it “live,” of course). And while you’d think that something like that would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the reality is that there are no guarantees. Aside from Mount St. Helens, there are four active volcanoes in our state… and some of them are overdue for an eruption.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/nominate/
If all this potential volcanic activity has you a little freaked out, fear not: In spite of our active volcanoes, Washington is still considered one of the safest states to live in.
